O.K. I have officially been in charge of
driving the LoveSac Bus two times and both times did not end well for me or the
bus. You could say I have a love/hate relationship with her! The first time I
drove her was when I flew out to Dallas to pick it up and bring it back to
Stamford.
I was looking forward to a nice relaxing drive cross country,
enjoying the sites, and being out from behind my computer for a few days. I got
in late that night with my buddy Mez, picked it up and headed out. First stop
was the gas station about 100 yards down the street to gas her up for the haul.
Went in to get some munchies and drinks and when I came back out to start her
back up, NOTHING! That was just the start of our relationship. After getting
it jumped and heading out, laughing about the luck of our start to our
adventure, we finally headed out. To make a long story and even longer trip
short, along the way we got two flat tires, the battery died 3 more times, and
the air conditioner broke! I swore I would never drive the bus again and was
just glad to be back in Stamford and behind my little computer in the
corner again. Since then the bus has been overhauled and fine tuned, driven
across the country and back again on many exciting adventures like X-Games,
Sundance, SXSW, and touring with Jessie James, with virtually no incidence (well
one small one outside Vegas, but we won't talk about that one), thanks to the
fine navigation skills of Charlie. It came back to Stamford a few days ago and
has been resting here at headquarters. With some down time we decided to take
her in and have her checked out and kept in fine operating mode. Since Shawn is
off in China again and Charlie is back juicing the stores, I was called upon to
give her another shot and simply drive it up to the shop for some up keep.
Simple enough I thought, it had been through quite a bit since I last was
responsible for it, without incident, and the memories of our terrible adventure
together have started to fade, so I was ready to give it another shot. Well,
needless to say, I made it about 5 miles from the office before all those
memories came rushing back to me as she started to lose power and slowly came to
a stop on route 95 in the right lane (there was no shoulder due to construction)
during rush hour! As drivers passed and showed their Love for the Bus in oh so
friendly fashion, and the police showed up urging me to move this thing NOW, I
had a premonition! The LoveSac Bus HATES Me, and the feeling is
mutual!!
