A few posts previous there were all kinds of great comments on our Mother's Day artwork. Some loved it, finding it cute, fun, and interesting; others absolutely hated it, finding it sexist, in poor taste, and offensive. Here we go again with our Father's Day ad...Is THIS one sexist??? Comment here.
ABOVE is our Dad's and Grad's ad and window poster celebrating father's day and graduation! This is hanging in every store window now. The Sac/Squatt Cover package that goes along with this art has over 300,000 stitches in a straight-stitch embroidery using 3 colors of black, purple, blue thread making up its unique "inked" design. This is the first ever Sac of its kind. But in this case, it is the ad/poster I am asking about. What do you think? Love it? Hate it? ALL comments are welcome, and the 3 comments that I like best (the funniest, most thoughtful or well-argued comments), will win THEIR choice of an Easter Phur Cover worth over $300 (Super, Movie, or CitySac) from our last Limited Edition Line, OR a $50 in-store gift card. All comments due by Monday, June 1st. I'll annonce a winner by June 5th.
PS: Hats off to designer Alex Hinton from Salt Lake City, UT - the baddest ink artist in the land. (That is NOT him pictured above)
I look forward to hearing what you have to say! Don't hold back, either way.

SOOOOOOOOOO sexist. As you can see, that skull is clearly a girls skull on her back... the tentacles coming out of her mouth to eat whom ever she's after. Why does it have to be a girls skull though... it should have swords and lightsabers and guns all over it with bullet holes. Thats a guys skull there. I'd get that tattoo'd on my sac.
(for the funny one there people, please don't take it serious...)
Love the design and packages tho. Keep up the good work.

I recently bought one of your sacs because I think it is a great product. However, seeing that poster almost makes me regret that I did. I am both a Dad and a soon to be grad. I didn't see any connection there. The poster just came across as a well worn marketing ploy of using sex to sell.

isn't this contest over yet?

I think a better question is "Is this ad stupid or not?" Ok so tats are cool, tats on a sac are cool but most of the guys I know with tats don't have skull tats. And what's with that anyway? An upside down skull with a octopus coming out? Some kind of twisted bouquet for Dad or Grad? Ok, what florist can I order that from? And I understand that this is directed towards dads, and somehow grads but I think girls would like this concept, if it wasn't a skull. Probably coulda come up with a cooler tat than a skull (or tribal or barbed wire for that matter). Tatoo artists are some of the most creative I've seen and this just isn't all that unique.
As far as the girl goes...
Sexist, bias and wrong in every way. Why? Because I've had 2 kids and my body will never look like that (not that it had much of a chance before that). So out of pure envy, I vote sexist!
And to the guy who said....
"Getting inked HURTS as I recall. I've seen boys cry while getting things done...especially something of that size! But I don't see any pain in that expression...she's taking it like a- well...a woman!"
Um...yeah, cuz she's really getting that tat on her back while trying to pose for a photo shoot, right. But thanks for the attempted nod.

Is it sexist? Sure it is. To men. totally assumes that guys will buy a product just because it has a racy pic of a girl on it. which is fairly insulting to guys.

This is bomb!!! I am a what many call a heavily tattooed person and I love it even more when i see ink branching out to furniture!!! I love this new look!!! I love it even more cause of my initials are SAC as well!! I missed out on getting the pajama bottoms when they were available years ago.... BUT that is another story.... Great job, way to stay on top of the Creative CURVE!!

Healz yeah it's sexist. Why does the tattoo have to be on her back? Can you say "tramp stamp"?

Dude there is only one thing that should be on your father's day poster - MFing Jemery Corash and his baby! No questions asked - it is what it should be!!!

This is sexist in that you're marketing a female's sex appeal in order to sell your design. Don't get me wrong, it definitely grabbed my attention, but that's what the advertising industry is. The question of whether or not the ad is sexist is irrelevant to consumerism. Sex sells and men win. That being said, I don't find this advertisement fitting at all for Father's Day. I'm also not at age of being a father so I don't know if men ever really do grow up.
P.S. Too bad you couldn't get Jenna Jameson, that would have been yummy.

Is this sexist?! Absolutely not. I'm PROUD of the tattoo design you gave her, ESPECIALLY! It's rare that you see the representation of a woman with a tattoo that isn't a tramp stamp...Or 'pretty' [ie. flowers, butterflies, CUTE things 'girls' like] This really shows that women can get MEANINGFUL tattoo's just the same as any man...Bravo!
Not to mention the fact that this is one STRONG woman! If this was sexist...I'd expect the portrayal of the 'weaker' sex. But look at her! She's in shape (nice arms!), standing tall and proud...and she's getting inked while standing up with a completely neutral look on her face. Getting inked HURTS as I recall. I've seen boys cry while getting things done...especially something of that size! But I don't see any pain in that expression...she's taking it like a- well...a woman!
I'd also like to note that I saw someone else ask if this was smutty. Well...depends on you really. But you have to stop and think...what does my Dad want to see? Let's face it. Any healthy man (or woman!!) enjoys their fair share of eye candy! That is one HOT lady, right there, people. Why not give your dad a little something to relax the eyes on his day off?
As for the grads...well...perhaps it's a bit of a stretch...but...I enjoy it! (<- graduating soon!)

Of course it is...its totally sexist...why isn't Kat Von D doing the tat???

Not sexist at all!! And it does relate to Father’s Day... if you get Dad the Inked Sac, and if you could get her in the Sac for him that would be the most Epic Father’s Day Ever!!! is that sexist???

No, I don't think this is sexist. I think that there is basically no way for that woman to be getting that large of a tattoo on her back with any clothing on from the waist up. I also think that if that were a man sitting there getting a tattoo, it would take away from the picture, and the overall feel of it. Face it men, even as the completely straight woman that I am, I can tell you that the female body is more aesthetically appealing. There have been studies done proving that the eye is drawn to objects that are round, and we are comforted by them. Who's our favorite cartoon character? Mickey Mouse, who is made almost entirely out of circles, soft edges and curved lines. Women are also made almost entirely out of circles, soft edges and curved lines. Men, on the other hand, are supposed to be more chiseled and hard, with rough edges, which are not as likely to be as pleasing to the eye... which defeats the purpose of an ad, actually.
Overall, I like the ad. It doesn't quite fit completely with fathers day... but who cares? Its not the fathers that buy their own gifts anyway.

I like this ad. I think the ink is a great design and I do love tattoos. However I think this ad might be a little confusing for the time of year you are trying to target. You want this ad to go towards graduation and gathers day. I can see that it relates to graduation. Kids are finally free have time on their hands sure why not go get an awesome tattoo but for fathers day it's kinda creepy that there is a half naked girl getting a tattoo. It's almost like your saying how do you like me now dad. Kinda unnerving to me. Maybe if she wasn't completely naked it wouldn't be as creepy but it's something about a naked young girl on fathers day, but hey maybe thats his present. ;)

It seems funny to me that the majority of complaints about the ads being sexist seem to come from women. I see no men coming here saying "This is for father's day? It offends me!", honestly you should just post the link as "Tell me, women, if this offends you"..wait..I think I may have offended some women by saying that! *shrug* Oh well..that's when I tell them to suck it up, because I AM a woman and I am writing this to tell my gender to CHILL!
As far as the ad not being father's day related, I ask, WHAT father or grad wouldn't like this? And isn't the entire point of the holiday to appeal to the fathers in our lives? Give them something they WANT to see..(a hot babe they aren't married to ^_~) rather than the usual tie or mug with "#1 dad" on it that will be tucked away in an attic at some point? I guarantee this is not "attic fodder".
As for grad's, the tattoo design itself is fresh, being upside down is a statement, very bold and I can definitely see it's appeal to the bachelors..heck I'm a girl and even I love it! I know my boyfriend would too! We are definitely college age..not exactly grads yet..but I would totally pimp that, grad or not!
I like it a lot, you get my thumbs up! I am also glad to see some women agreeing with me for once. Strong ladies! You probably have a few tats yourself eh? Now put this bad boy design on a Sac and send it to me! lol.

If this is sexist, then I'm Elmer Fudd. Seriously, if/when I ever have a daughter, I will have the word "LoveSac" tattooed all over her body as a walking tribute to how much I enjoy terrific furniture. Heck, give me an ink gun and I'll tattoo her myself!
In fact, I think that in LoveSac's next move to take over the planet, there should be a sac in every tattoo parlor...just for that sensitive person who needs some extra relaxation.
Seriously though...the picture's sick, the tattoo's awesome, and sacs are freakin terrific! Keep up the good work Shawny D and Alex!!! This is surely one of the more eye-catching ads that I've seen in a good while!
Posted by: John O'Neil | May 19, 2009 at 02:22 AM
A tad bit smutty, no? If this is supposed to fall under the 'grads' category than it is borderline pervert. If it is supposed to be appealing to the dads out there...well, let's just say I'd smack the father of my child on the back of the head if he used this ad as an reason as to why he wanted a love sac for father's day...
Nice commercial appeal, just completely irrelevant.

Okay, as a woman I have to say that this is NOT a sexist add. First of all let's face it... women's bodies are just plain beautiful. You get the occasional woman that is upset because women are being portrayed as a sex object but what they are really saying is, why don't I look like that, and why am I not in that ad?? All women use their sexuality to get what they want whether they want to admit it or not. The design is sick, her body is beautiful and the guy doing the tattoo is focused ON THE TATTOO. Is is drooling? No. If you would have put a three hundred pound sumo wrestler getting a tat I'd be a little more disturbed, however I'd see the resemblance to the over-all shape of the sac. Tats, like bodies are beautiful pieces of artwork, and this is a sick ad that gives us a little taste of both. Good job!
