Thursday Thought: Idealists & Visionaries
“Among idealists and visionaries, there is no shortage of good intent, but there’s often a shortage of discipline.”
-- Scott Belsky, founder of Behance
Maybe you’re here because it is a “good job.” Maybe its paying off debt, or putting food on your table, or paying the rent/mortgage. You could likely find the same or better somewhere else. I believe that a good portion of you are here for the same reason I am (still)....Because you are an idealist—and a bit of a visionary.
Everybody needs “a job,” but if you’re going to spend the lion’s share of your life doing something, it might as well not suck. It might as well be meaningful. Idealistically, it might as well be something that, even in a small way, can change the world and the way people live for the better. For those amongst us who might have other options, maybe even better pay or more prestigious options than what you’re doing at Lovesac, I believe that it is the visionary in us that can see the clear potential in this thing that we’re building together, and that is (and should be) more motivating than even the paycheck. That is why you are here. The icing on the cake is: we still get paid!
We are a group of mostly idealists and visionaries that have chosen this path, and as we head into a new fiscal year with a new lease on life and a perfectly clean slate, we must impose a healthy amount of discipline upon ourselves and even each other. I do not believe that we lack for enthusiasm or good intent...but we have a lot of wood to chop and we must be sharper and more capable than we are today—individually and collectively.
So embrace discipline. Seek it out. Think about what that means to you on a personal level—in terms of your personal routine and your personal development. You can become even sharper—as can I. Embrace a culture of discipline for this organization as well. We will see outsized success and we will all share in it.
2014 will be an exciting year for Lovesac—and it will be your fault.
Thanks,
-- Shawny
So ... When do we see corner wedges that can take the lovesac sactionals to having some rounded corners?
